Hiring Teens: What Employers Need to Know
The Economic Development Council for Island County is pleased to welcome the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) for a free virtual Coffee Chat focused on youth employment requirements and resources for employers.
Hiring young workers can be a great way to build your workforce and create opportunities for the next generation. This session will provide an overview of key requirements and resources related to employing minors in Washington state.
Topics will include:
- Hours of work and prohibited duties for minors
- Minor work permits and recordkeeping requirements
- Meal and rest break requirements for minor employees
- Supervision requirements related to prohibited duties
- L&I resources and guidance for employers
- A brief overview of internships, apprenticeships, and volunteer roles for minors
Whether you're a restaurant, retailer, contractor, farm, nonprofit, or other employer, this session will help connect you with information and resources related to youth employment.
