How to Repurpose Real Estate to Create Community and Fun Hangout Spots

How to Repurpose Real Estate to Create Community and Fun Hangout Spots

Thursday, September 10, 2026 (6:00 PM - 8:00 PM) (PDT)

Description

Come join us for a free, open talk by the founders of Salad and The Machine Shop. Andy Cook of Salad will explain his vision that is already underway for transforming the old Langley Building into a thriving hangout spot for the entire community, soon to be open 7 days a week as a 'third place' where anyone can come to enjoy, discover, relax, play, or chat. He has created a place with a funky tiki bar, wild décor, coffee shop, record and audiophile store, video games, upcoming events, and more. You can get a sneak peek direct from the founder before it opens to the community. Artist Tim Leonard will also speak about how he is collaborating with Andy to bring back the beloved Machine Shop pinball arcade, right beside Salad. He will share The Machine Shop's history, what has occurred since the first version closed, and how the new Machine Shop will be different. In addition, there will be discussion about how the building is being transformed and reimagined even beyond these projects, and how this will provide new opportunities and collaborations for the broader Whidbey community. This event is organized by the informal Whidbey Island Real Estate Investors Group. The gathering is free and open to everyone who may have any interest in these topics. Come join us on Thursday September 10 at 6:00pm at The Langley Building (630 2nd St, Langley). RSVP by calling or texting 206-931-7524
